Play Spelling Bee online and find as many words as possible from seven letters. Each puzzle has six outer letters and one required centre letter. Build words, submit valid answers, earn points, and climb the ranks from Beginner to Genius.

The challenge is finding words you might overlook in an ordinary spelling exercise. You can reuse letters, but every answer must contain the centre letter, use only letters from the hive, and have at least four letters. Longer words and pangrams can give your score a valuable boost.

How to Play Spelling Bee

  1. Study the letter hive. Identify the centre letter first because every accepted word must contain it.
  2. Form a word. Select letters to create a word of at least four letters. Letters may be reused, but you cannot introduce letters that are not in the hive.
  3. Submit your answer. Press Enter or use the Enter control to check your word. Accepted words are added to your found-word list and score.
  4. Try another combination. Use the delete control to correct an entry or Shuffle to rearrange the outer letters and spot patterns you may have missed.
  5. Check your progress. Watch your points and rank increase as you discover more words. Use a hint when you need help exploring the remaining answers.

Example: Suppose the hive contains A, E, L, N, P, T and R, with A in the centre. Words such as PLAN and PLANET use only available letters and contain A, so they illustrate the required pattern. Whether a particular word is accepted depends on the game’s dictionary.

What Makes a Word Valid?

Before submitting a word, check these rules. A familiar word will not count if it breaks even one of the puzzle’s requirements.

  • Four letters or more: Shorter words do not qualify.
  • The centre letter is compulsory: Every answer must include the highlighted letter.
  • Use the hive letters only: Repeating an available letter is allowed, but using a letter outside the seven-letter set is not.
  • The word must be recognised: The game checks submissions against its dictionary, so some correctly spelled words may not be accepted.
  • Each answer scores once: Resubmitting a word you have already found will not earn additional points.

Spelling Bee Scoring and Pangrams

Scoring rewards both steady discoveries and longer words. Every valid four-letter word earns one point. Words with five or more letters earn points equal to their length, while a pangram earns an additional seven-point bonus.

A pangram uses all seven distinct letters in the hive. It is one of the most rewarding discoveries in Spelling Bee because its bonus is added to the word’s regular score.

Four-letter words Earn 1 point for each valid answer.
Longer words Earn points equal to the number of letters.
Pangrams Use all seven distinct hive letters and earn a 7-point bonus.
Rank progress Build your total and move toward the Genius rank.

Tips for Finding More Words

When the obvious answers run out, change how you search the hive instead of repeatedly trying random combinations.

  • Start with the centre letter. Think of words that begin, end, or have a familiar word pattern around that letter.
  • Test different endings. Where the letters permit, try endings such as -er, -ed or -ing to discover related words.
  • Extend words you already know. A familiar short word may suggest a longer valid form, giving you another answer and potentially more points.
  • Look for pangrams. Check whether a word can include all seven distinct letters, not just a selection of them.
  • Shuffle the hive. A different arrangement can make overlooked letter combinations easier to notice without changing the available letters.

Using Hints and Game Statistics

If you get stuck, the hint panel can point you toward words you have not found. It provides information such as remaining word lengths, two-letter starting combinations, possible pangrams, and the longest remaining word. You start with five hints, so try a few combinations yourself before using one.

The statistics section lets you review your score, found words, rank and other saved results. You can also compare recent play and check yesterday’s puzzle answers where those options are available. Playing history is stored in your browser, so it may not transfer to another device or browser.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Spelling Bee?

Spelling Bee is a word game where you form words from seven letters. Every answer must include the centre letter and contain at least four letters.

Can I use the same letter more than once?

Yes. You may reuse any of the available letters, provided the word follows the centre-letter rule and is accepted by the game’s dictionary.

How are points calculated?

Four-letter words earn one point. Words with five or more letters earn points equal to their length, and pangrams receive an additional seven-point bonus.

What is a pangram in Spelling Bee?

A pangram is a valid word that uses all seven distinct letters in the hive. It earns the usual word points plus seven bonus points.

Why was my word rejected?

It may be shorter than four letters, omit the centre letter, contain a letter outside the hive, or be missing from the game’s dictionary.

Start with words you recognise, then explore new combinations as your list grows. With careful use of the centre letter, longer words, and pangram clues, you can discover more answers and work toward a higher Spelling Bee rank.
